Learning Objectives
Participants in this online learning module will be able to:
- Name the six specific qualities required of an effective mentor.
- Recognize the importance of respect in a mentoring relationship and how to demonstrate respect in a way that matters to students.
- Identify the value of listening, what it takes to be a good listener and tips for improved listening.
- Assess personal mentoring qualities and set a goal for growing in the mentor role.

- From our definition of mentoring, you now know that mentors work collaboratively in a partnership with their mentees.
- From the four predictable phases of mentoring model, you now know that mentors are relationship builders, trust-builders and know the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
- You have learned that mentors provide support by active listening and being empathetic and respectful. Mentors are adept at giving and receiving honest and candid feedback.
