The Mentoring Cycle

Effective mentoring relationships move through four sequential and predictable phases:

        1. Preparing
        2. Establishing Agreements
        3. Facilitating Learning
        4. Coming to Closure

If any phase is skipped over, or incomplete, mentoring partners often find they must go back or revisit that phase in order to get back on track.

4-Phase Mentoring Cycle

Let's break down the phases, one by one. As we review each phase and its components, think about your own mentoring relationships, formal or informal, and whether you engage in these important activities.
